Two Friends drown in Shitalakkhya River
Two friend have drowned in the Shitalakkhya River while bathing.
Fire Servvice divers recovered the bodies of the two victims at the Kazirchar area of Danga Union of Narsingdi on Friday and Saturday, said Mohammad Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Polash Thana Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Mihaad Islam (18) and his friend Asaduzzaman Asad (17.
According to sources, around 3:30 pm on Friday, four friends—Rezaul Tanvir (18), Samir Khan (17), Asad, and Mihaad—visited the Shitalakkhya River bank to break their fast. After having iftar, they went into the water to bathe. When one of them was caught by the current, another attempted to help, and both were swept away.
While Rezaul and Samir managed to swim to safety, they were unable to rescue their friends. They immediately informed local residents, who alerted the Fire Service. Rescue workers reached the scene by 5 pm on Friday, and Mihaad’s body was recovered soon after. Despite searching until nightfall, Asad’s body could not be found, and the search resumed early on Saturday. By 11 am, the diving team successfully recovered Asad’s body.

The victims, who had grown up together in the capital’s Pallabi area, had recently come to visit their friends.
Preparations were underway to file an accidental death case, said the OC.

Launch sinks in Shitalakkhya, 6 bodies recovered
At least six bodies, including of a three-year-old child, were recovered after launch carrying around 50-60 passengers went down in the Shitalakkhya River after being hit by a cargo vessel near Al Aminnagar in Narayanganj Sunday afternoon.
One of the deceased was identified as Joynal, aged about 50, while the bodies of a 10-year-old girl, an 18-year-old girl, a 45-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman remained unidentified, said Narayanganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin.
The fire service official said they recovered five bodies and the locals recovered Joynal’s body.
The bodies will be handed over to the relatives through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
Around 20 passengers were still missing, he said.
Besides, 15-20 passengers managed to swim ashore, he added.
The naval police seized MV Ruposhi-9, a cargo ship owned by City Group. The cargo anchored at ‘Hossain The Dockyard’ in Munshiganj shortly after the accident, said Moniruzzaman Monir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Naval Police Station.

Launch with 50 passengers capsizes in Shitalakkhya
A launch carrying around 50 passengers sank in the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj on Sunday.
Narayanaganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayedul Alam said an oil-laden tanker hit Munshiganj-bound launch ML Rabit Al Hasan around 6pm.
The launch capsized soon after the collision. Around 20 passengers managed to swim ashore while the rest are still unaccounted for, he said.
