A Dhaka court has placed former chief news editor of the private channel Ekattor TV, Shakil Ahmed, and his wife, former chief reporter and anchor of the TV channel, Farzana Rupa, on a five-day remand in connection with the murder case of Anwar Hossain Patwari. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the order on Monday after the police produced the couple before the court. Ex-minister Farhad Hossain's wife arrested However, the investigating officer of the case, CID inspector Nasir Uddin Sarker, sought a five-day remand for them. Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favour of granting the remand. Ex-MP, 2 others arrested in capital’s Bhatara Anwar Hossain Patwari was shot dead on August 5 in Gol Chattar area of Mirpur. His father, Al Amin Patwari, later filed a murder case at the Mirpur Model Police Station.

A Dhaka court on Sunday asked the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit by January 24 the probe report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi. With this, the report submission in the case has been deferred for 84 times. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chadra Odhikari fixed the date after hearing. Read: Sagar-Runi murder case: HC drops petition from cause list On March 2 last year, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) submitted a progress report in Sagar-Runi murder case in affidavit form to the Attorney General’s Office. According to the report, two unidentified people were involved in the murder. Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead at their rented apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area on 11 February 2012. Nousher Ali roman, brother of Runi filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Police Station on the following day. Police arrested Tanvir in connection with the murder case on October 1, 2012. Later, he secured bail in 2014.
