“After one and half years of investigation, the CID has prepared the charge-sheet against 125 people, including 87 DU students. Supplementary charge sheet will be given if their addresses and names are found valid,” said Additional IG of CID Mohammad Shafiqul Islam while briefing reporters at its Malibagh headquarters here on Thursday.
The CID chief said a special team of the organised crime unit under the CID, led by its Special Superintendent (SS) of Police Mollah Nazrul Islam, has been working to prevent question paper leaking attempts.
“After one and half years of investigation, we’ve been able to identify the question paper leak and digital forgery syndicate,” he said.
The special team has already arrested 47 people, including its mastermind former BKSP assistant director Alip Kumar Biswash and ringleaders Ibrahim, Mostafa Kamal, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz and Tajul Islam.
Among them, 46 have already made their statements before the magistrate confessing their guilt, the CID chief said.
Shafiqul Islam said the CID conducted drives at two dormitories of the university on October 19 in 2017 and arrested two students—Mamun and Rana.
They also arrested admission seeker Rafi from examination centre the following day based on secret information. A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on October 20, 2017.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the question leaking syndicate members used to collect questions from the printing press before the beginning of exams, he said.
Then other members of the syndicate provided answers to the questions through digital devices several minutes before start of exams, he said adding that the charge-sheet will be submitted before the court very soon.
Among others, DIG Shah Alam, DIG Imtiaz Ahmed and SS Mollah Nazrul Islam were present at the briefing.
