The health authorities said 42 patients died in 24 hours until morning. Official data put the coronavirus death toll 3,983, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a statement.
According to DGHS, 2,485 new cases were detected after testing 13,382 samples. So far, the country has confirmed 297,083 cases.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. Labs across the country tested 14,56,038 samples since March 8 and found 20.4 percent of them positive.
Meanwhile, DGHS said 3,784 patients have newly recovered.
So far, more than half of the patients (182,875) have won against the virus. The recovery rate is 61.56 percent.
Bangladesh’s current fatality rate is 1.34 percent and the country has 1,10,225 active cases.

Dhaka hardest hit
Among the 42 latest victims, 31 were above 50 years.

DGHS data show that 1,947 patients who died were above 60 years and 1,105 between 51 and 60 years. The death rate among other age groups is significantly low.
Dhaka division has recorded 1,920 fatalities, followed by Chattogram with 880 deaths. Rajshahi division ranks third in terms of fatalities with 270 deaths, followed by Khulna with 322 deaths, Barishal 155, Sylhet 184, Rangpur 167 and Mymensingh 85, DGHS said.
Across the country, 20,287 people are in isolation and 52,727 people are quarantined at present.
