The health authorities have confirmed 4,014 new cases after testing 18,837 samples in the span of 24 hours until Monday. The infection rate for the day was recorded at 22.5 percent.

Since March 18, the government said 1,783 people have died of COVID-19.

In the last 24 hours, 45 people died from the highly contagious disease. The mortality rate is still hovering at around 1.26 percent.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin. She noted that at present, the total infection rate against the number of total tests is 18.96 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 2,053 patients recovered from the disease, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 57,780. Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.75 percent.

Dr Nasima said among the deceased 36 were male and nine were female.

 “Their age-based analysis says, two were aged between 21 and 30 years, three between 31 and 40, seven between 41 and 50, 11 between 51 and 60, 14 between 61 and 70, six between 71 and 80, one between 81 and 90 and another was aged between 91 and 100 years,” she said.

Twenty two patients died in Dhaka division, 10 in Chattogram division, five in Khulna division, two in Rajshahi division, two in Mymensingh division, three in Sylhet division, and three more people died in Barishal division.

“Thirty people died in hospitals across the country while 14 others died at homes. One patient was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital,” she added.

Across the country, 1,028 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 609 were released. Currently, 14,942 people are in isolation.

During the same period, another 3,053 people were home and institutionally quarantined while 2,692 were released. At present 64,959 people are quarantined across the country.
