Fisheries and Livestock unit of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) organised the workshop on the impact of LSD on the livestock production and its controlling measures in Bangladesh.

According to the Department of Livestock Service, the infection rate has increased vastly in recent times, forcing experts and scientists to sit together to find out ways to tackle the situation.

Kazi Wasi Uddin, additional secretary (Livestock-2) of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, spoke as the chief guest at the programme with PKSF Managing Director Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah in the chair.

Wasi Uddin said Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) has been trying to invent a vaccine to prevent LSD.

He also said the department concerned is trying to prevent the disease with ‘Goat Pox Vaccine’ for now moment and 5 lakh vaccines have already been distributed at the field level.

Dr Md Gias Uddin, scientific officer and department head of BLRI, presented the keynote paper titled ‘Impact of lumpy skin disease on livestock production and its controlling measures in Bangladesh’ at the workshop.

BLRI General Director Dr Nathu Ram Sarkar and Livestock Department’s Director General Dr Abdul Jabbar Shikder spoke on the occasion.

The Fisheries and Livestock Ministry issued a notice on November 5 last with instructions for farm owners and veterinary surgeons to control the disease.

It suggested checking mosquito breeding in farm areas and using antipyretic, antibiotic and antihistamine from registered veterinarians to control the disease.

The ministry also instructed veterinary surgeons to keep intensive supervision on the affected cattle and raise awareness among farmers.
