Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday sought greater US investment and stronger economic engagement with Bangladesh during talks with visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, as the two sides discussed bilateral relations, trade, the Rohingya crisis and other issues of mutual interest. The meeting was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, beginning at 9:30am, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin. During the meeting, Sergio Gor praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, saying stability is returning to Bangladesh under his leadership. As an indication of that progress, he said, the United States has positively revised its travel advisory for Bangladesh, which would send an important message to American investors that the country is ready for investment. The two sides also discussed a planned visit by a delegation of the US-Bangladesh Business Council to Bangladesh next month. They also discussed expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor on Saturday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting began at 9:30am at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, said PM's Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh-US bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, regional cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest.  

US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor on Friday visited a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar, leading a 14-member high-level delegation. According to the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), the delegation arrived at Cox's Bazar Airport around 12:00pm and proceeded directly to the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya. The delegation visited Camp-4, where they observed activities of the World Food Programme (WFP), including its humanitarian assistance operations for the displaced Rohingyas. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen accompanied the delegation during the visit. Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday. On that day, he held a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Friday met visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor and discussed issues of mutual interest. "The meeting was held at a city hotel in the morning. I can only tell you it was a good meeting," a diplomatic source on the US side told UNB. It could not be learned what they exactly discussed during the meeting. On June 25, Gor wished High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi all the very best as he assumed his "important role" as India's new High Commissioner to Bangladesh. "As the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, I look forward to working closely with him," Gor said on June 25. The US Special Envoy met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Thursday evening and visited the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar on Friday. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday. Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States are moving in a very positive direction, noting that they will build on the achievements they have made so far. "Our engagement with the US is not limited to one meeting. We remain engaged on all aspects and at all levels, and the relationship is moving forward," he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday night after his meeting with Gor at the State Guest House Padma.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday (December 22, 2025) reiterated his commitment to holding the general election on February 12 next. "The nation is eagerly waiting to exercise their voting rights which were stolen by the autocratic regime," he said. Prof Yunus made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Sergio Gor, the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, at around 7:30 pm (Dhaka time). The discussion, which lasted for about half an hour, focused on trade and tariff negotiations between Bangladesh and the United States, the upcoming general election, the country’s democratic transition, and the murder of young Bangladeshi political activist Sharif Osman Hadi. Read more: EC’s briefing for DCs-SPs begins Sergio Gor, who also serves as the US Ambassador to India, congratulated Prof Yunus for his leadership during recent tariff negotiations.  Bangladesh succeeded in reducing US reciprocal tariffs on Bangladeshi goods to 20 percent. The US Special Envoy also discussed the massive funeral of Shaheed Osman Hadi, said Chief Adviser’s Press wing. The Chief Adviser noted that supporters of the ousted autocratic regime were allegedly spending millions of dollars to disrupt the electoral process and that their fugitive leader was inciting violence.  He, however, said the interim government was “fully prepared” to deal with any challenges.
