Beijing seeks deeper cooperation with Dhaka to advance ‘Health Silk Road’
The first Bangladesh-China Joint Cardiovascular Disease Clinic was inaugurated at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Tuesday (December 02) to have deeper cooperation in the health sector, contributing to the ‘Health Silk Road’.
Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, Deputy Director General of the Yunnan Foreign Affairs Office Ma Zuoxin and Deputy Director of the Fuwai Yunnan Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Shi Jinyang, among others, attended the ceremony.

BNP leader gunned down in Badda
Kamrul Ahsan Sadhan, joint convener of the BNP’s Gulshan thana unit, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the capital’s Middle Badda area on Monday night.
According to police and witnesses, the incident took place around 10:06pm near a tea stall opposite to the office of former commissioner Kayum on Road No. 4 in the Gudaraghat area.
Kamrul was having tea with a few others when two masked attackers arrived and opened indiscriminate fire.
He was struck by four to five bullets in the chest and back, causing him to fall from his chair.

The assailants fled the scene while firing blank shots to cover their escape.
Kamrul was rushed to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station Md Saiful Islam told the media that CCTV footage from the area is being analysed to identify the shooters.
“We hope the killers will be arrested soon,” he said.

Kamrul’s body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

Coronavirus: NICVD doctors, nurses, staffers among 18 infected
Doctors, nurses and staffers of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) are among 18 people who were diagnosed with coronavirus recently.
“Six doctors, eight nurses, a ward master and three staffers of the hospital were infected with coronavirus,” said Dr Kajal Kumar Karmakar of NICVD’s Department of Cardiology.
Meanwhile, three wards of the state of the art institute for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases were shut until Tuesday, he added.
Dr Kajal also informed that 15 doctors and 37 nurses of the hospital were sent to home quarantine.
Expressing fear over coronavirus situation, NICVD doctors said the hospital could be shut in the next few days if this situation worsens.
Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF), a forum of physicians, on Monday said 373 physicians at private and public hospitals got infected during their frontline battle against coronavirus.
